Hard work and dedication paved the way for Stephen Jackson to become an NBA champion and star for the Golden State Warriors. Affectionately known to Warriors fans as Captain Jack, Stephen came to the Warriors in 2007 as part of a blockbuster trade that helped the Golden State Warriors secure their first playoff appearance in 13 years, and upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round.
In eight NBA seasons, Stephen has averaged 14.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 540 games played. He was drafted out of high school by the Phoenix Suns as the 43rd overall pick in the second round of the 1997 NBA Draft. After playing in the CBA and overseas, Stephen returned to the NBA in 2000, and signed with the New Jersey Nets as a free agent. In 2001, Stephen joined the San Antonio Spurs where he was third on the team in scoring behind Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. Two years later in 2003, Stephen went on to win an NBA Championship with the Spurs.
A fan favorite and loved by all of his teammates, Stephen has beaten the odds to become an NBA superstar on and off the court. In 2006, Stephen opened the Stephen Jackson Academy of Art, Science and Technology in Port Arthur Texas. Stephen loves his hometown of Port Arthur as well as his new home in the Bay Area. He has spent countless hours giving to those in need in both communities and making sure his presence is felt. This past season, Stephen brought a group of students from his home town to Oakland to watch him play and experience Bay Area culture as part of Black History Month. He also refurbished a basketball court in San Francisco, conducted countless Read To Achieve "Reading Time-outs", and made the Holiday’s possible for several families in Oakland. Stephen’s community endeavors have made such an impact in the Bay Area, that San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome has proclaimed April 12th Stephen Jackson Day in San Francisco!
